A special screening of ‘Amy Winehouse: The Day She Came to Dingle’, the documentary which captures the late singer’s visit and performance in Dingle during Other Voices 2006, will take place during the 2012 Dingle International Film Festival. The screening, which will be introduced by Anthony Wall (BBC Arena) will take place in St. James’ Church on the evening of St. Patrick’s Day.
The documentary is just one of the many highlights of the 2012 Dingle Film Festival which will take place from March 15-18. The festival’s official programme was launched this week and many will be delighted to see the high level of local input featured within many of the events.
On St. Patrick’s Day morning, at the early hour of 8am, St. James Church will act as the setting for the screening of some never-before-seen 8mm footage shot by former senator Tom Fitzgerald during his time as a stand-in for Hollywood screen legend Robert Mitchum during the filming of Ryan’s Daughter.
The Dingle Fife and Drum Band, fresh from the annual 6.30am jaunt around Dingle in Ireland’s earliest Patrick’s Day parade, will open proceedings with a tune or two outside the church on Main Street.
Inside, Lumiere, aka Eilis Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon, will perform live while the silent footage is projected onto a 16 x 9 foot screen.
The late Michael ‘Francie’ O’Sullivan will also be remembered during the festival with a special screening of ‘Stella Days’ on the Friday night of the festival in Phoenix Cinema. The film appropriately tells the story of priest Daniel Barry (played by Martin Sheen), who set up the first ‘Stella’ cinema in Ireland.
A short film, ‘Ag Caint with Michael O’Sullivan’, directed by festival CEO Maurice Galwey and edited by Tralee’s Rory Kirby, will also be screened on the night.
Casting director of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings (and no stranger to Dingle) Amy Hubbard will also take part in the festival advising anyone interested in becoming an actor on how to go about it, during a casting summit in the Dingle Skellig Hotel on St. Patrick’s Day.
