A plan is currently being discussed by Kerry County Council to construct a cycle path connecting Dingle to Ventry.
Cllr. Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald explained how the plan, while still being in its infancy, is something which may potentially come to fruition in the future, subject to a number of conditions.
“The Council have a plan to do it but funding has not yet been confirmed for the project,” he said.
According to the Councillor, the likelihood is that the cycle path would begin at Ladies Cross in Milltown, extending through different townlands such as Monaree and Baile Móir on the way to Ventry. This however has not yet been officially confirmed.
The Councillor was also keen to stress that no definite plans have yet been made and that agreement will have to be sought from landowners in the area.
“Agreement will have to be reached with landowners and it is subject to funding,” he said.
“It is at a ‘desired stage at the moment rather than a developmental stage.”
In terms of the potential aim of the project, the councillor added that the path, if it goes ahead, will seek to encourage tourism in the area as biking holidays are considered a major growth area, especially in the European market. Pictured: view of the Ventry sky-line.
