As the 2011 Dingle Marathon gets underway at 9am Dingle Garda Sergeant Noel Burke has released details of traffic restrictions which will be in place as the runners take their starters orders this Saturday.
The Garda Traffic for Dingle for the 2011 Dingle Marathon is as follows.
There will be traffic disruption around Dingle town and the route through Corca Dhuibhne between 8am and 4pm on the day. It is the same route as 2010 with a slight variation to the finish of the half marathon which will leave the main road at junction of Dún Chaoin pier.
With regards access from Milltown Roundabout to Main Street, the Spa Road and the Mall Junction, all traffic will be diverted from the west, via the old Hospital. Main Street will be two way for the duration of the event. Parking will be restricted on the left hand side of Main street and Upper Main street from the Mall junction to Fairfield close.
Access from Milltown Roundabout to Strand Street and Bridge Street will be closed, and will operate one way from Milltown towards town from approximately 9.30am to 11am and again from approximately 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
Green Street will operate as normal and John Street will operate one way from the Mall Junction towards the New road.
The Mall will operate one way from Dingle Garda Station roundabout towards John Street and the Spa road. This will allow traffic for the Mart access the grounds by way of John Street entrance.
At the Tracks and Strand Street, no through traffic will be allowed enter the Tracks except for delivery vehicles and vehicles wishing to access Garvey’s Supervalu car-parks. Buses can be facilitated to use the car park.
There are a number of Road closures along the Marathon route from 8.45am to 3.30pm and according to Sergeant Burke, it is intended to keep disruption to a minimum. The Half Marathon finishes at Krugers, Dún Chaoin and this will be completed by 1pm approximately. Any further queries can be directed to Dingle Garda station at 066-9151522.
